Mild detergent only – choose one made for wool - like this
No fabric softeners – they block the natural fibers' breathability
Air dry only – alpaca dries quickly on its own, no tumble drying
WHY ALPACA SOCKS?
FLUFFY 100% ALPACA YARN
100% Baby Alpaca Yarn – Soft, breathable and built to last
This handknitting yarn is made from pure Baby Alpaca – one of the world’s finest and softest natural fibres. It’s naturally warm, moisture-wicking, and completely itch-free, making it ideal for beanies, mittens, scarves or any project worn close to the skin.
Our alpaca yarns are spun with durability and comfort in mind. No synthetics, no plastic blends – just raw, functional beauty that holds up through seasons of wear. Whether you're knitting for yourself or a loved one, this is a fibre that transforms effort into heirloom quality.

Frequently asked questions
Will my alpaca wool shrink when washed?

Not if you treat it right. Our alpaca wool is not pre-washed, so it may shrink slightly if washed incorrectly. We recommend washing it on a gentle wool cycle at 30 °C and letting it air dry flat.
NO tumble drying or high spin cycles, which can stress the fibers. If you wash them at 40 °C with regular laundry (which we don’t recommend), expect about one full EU size of shrinkage.
Is alpaca better than merino wool?

In nearly every core function of wool, alpaca out performs merino. It contains more microscopic air pockets within each fiber, which improves insulation without added weight. Compared to merino, alpaca wicks moisture more efficiently and absorbs significantly less water, meaning it dries faster and keeps you feeling dry during activity. It also naturally resists odours and is hypoallergenic – alpaca contains no lanolin, so it’s safe for those with wool sensitivity or allergies.
And because alpacas tread lightly – both literally and ecologically – their fiber is among the most sustainable on the planet: low water use, low impact grazing, and no harsh chemical treatments.
Unlike merino sheep, which are farm animals, alpacas are native to their environment and live in balance with the Andean ecosystem.

Is it itchy like other wool?

Alpaca fiber has a smoother surface than sheep’s wool, so it won’t irritate your skin – even without chemical softening. It’s naturally hypoallergenic, suitable for sensitive skin and doesn’t require a base layer underneath.
Alpaca wool might feel slightly coarse to some – this is normal with high-quality, untreated alpaca. As you wear it, the fibers relax, becoming noticeably softer over time. In fact, alpaca improves with age: it molds to your movements, softens with wear, and retains its structure for years. A gentle hand wash or a wool cycle can help ease the break-in period.
How often should I wash my alpaca garment?

You rarely need to. Alpaca naturally resists odours, so we recommend simply airing out your alpaca garment between wears. Only machine wash when needed – for example, if you spill something.
When you do wash: use a gentle cycle at 30 °C with a wool detergent. Lay flat to air dry. Avoid tumble drying and high spin cycles, which can damage the delicate fibers.
